WHY SOCIOLOGISTS ARE ON TEAM NURTURE

It’s always interesting when questions of “human nature” arise during my sociology classes. For the most part, the sociologists reject the notion of an innate human “nature” independent of the social world. That’s not to say that there are no such innate features to human behavior. They are just not important in sociology. Indeed, it’s exceedingly difficult to separate out the cultural/social influences from the genetic/biological variations on human behavior. Recent developments in genetics have only served to complicate this analysis.
