I find it hard to believe that most of our community, regardless of politics, is not dedicated to progress

The word “progressive” means dedicated to progress. That is why left-leaning political movements embrace it as a label. Presumably, when the Lee County Schools superintendent removed the word “progressive” from the district tagline because it “…does not reflect most of our community,” she was referencing the latter application.
Still, it is revealing of her vision that a dedication to progress must be deleted for the sake of political expediency. Perhaps it is more a reflection of her elected status that she must appeal to voters repulsed by the word because… well… you know… “progressive.” I find it hard to believe, however, that most of our community, regardless of politics, is not dedicated to progress.
